Danish Defense Minister hopes for more Ukrainian arms production in Denmark
Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, who is on a visit to Kyiv, expressed hope that even more Ukrainian defense companies will be able to establish production on Danish territory.
He stated this at a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov and head of the Come Back Alive foundation Taras Chmut on Tuesday.
"We have continued the discussions we have had over the last month regarding inviting defense companies from Ukraine to set up production in Denmark. We invited the first company to set up production in Denmark. We announced this last year. It was Firepoint. And now the facility is being built to start production this year. We hope that in the near future we will be able to invite more companies to start production in Denmark," Poulsen said.
The minister said manufacturing in Denmark will be, above all, a safe place. In addition, Poulsen noted that manufacturing in Denmark will also have a positive impact on Denmark's security in the coming years.
"I think this is what you could call the 'Danish model 2.0' because it will be a model that will create more production directly for Ukraine, but also provide greater security for Denmark. And that is really in our interests as well," he added.
As reported, Denmark was the first to introduce a unique mechanism for direct procurement of weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers ("Danish model").
The defining event of 2025 was the evolution of Danish support from a donor model to a strategic defense-industrial partnership. Memorandums were signed on the creation of production facilities by Ukrainian companies in Denmark.
The successful implementation of the "Danish model" contributed to the expansion of financing of the Ukrainian defense industry by other countries.
