Zelenskyy calls on EU to set date for Ukraine's accession to Union

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the European Union not to delay and set a specific date for Ukraine’s accession to the bloc, stating that this should happen as early as 2027.

"I want a date. I’m asking for it," Zelenskyy said in an interview with the Financial Times on the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to the president, any postponement of Ukraine’s membership in the European Union could create a situation where future leaders or the next generations find themselves in a difficult position due to a possible blockage by Russia.

We will not allow the next leaders or the next generation to find themselves in a situation where Russia blocks Ukraine’s membership in the EU for 50 years, Zelenskyy said.
