Russian attack on Jan 27 causes significant damage to Druzhba oil pipeline – Ukrtransnafta
As a result of a targeted Russian attack on January 27, significant damage was caused to the technological and auxiliary equipment of the Druzhba oil pipeline, Ukrtransnafta reported.
"Work is currently underway at various stages of defect assessment, stabilization of the system’s technical condition and elimination of the consequences of the enemy strike. Emergency restoration work is being carried out with the involvement of specialized technical units and equipment," the company said in an official comment to Interfax-Ukraine.
The operator stressed that Russia systematically attacks oil and gas infrastructure facilities and, since the start of the full-scale invasion, has carried out more than 400 attacks on Naftogaz Group facilities using more than 1,700 strike weapons. Since the start of 2026 alone, more than 20 attacks on the group’s infrastructure have been recorded.
"All of these massive Russian missile and drone attacks are aimed at destroying Ukraine’s oil, gas and energy infrastructure. Under such conditions, it is difficult for energy companies to ensure uninterrupted, safe and stable operations," Ukrtransnafta said.
The company clarified that it promptly notified the Hungarian and Slovak sides of the January 27 attack and its consequences through established channels.
"Company representatives are in constant dialogue with Hungarian and Slovak counterparts," Ukrtransnafta stressed.
As previously reported, Hungary halted diesel fuel exports to Ukraine on February 18 until transit of Russian crude oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored, said Zoltan Kovacs, Hungary’s state secretary for public diplomacy and relations. In his view, Ukraine "unilaterally halted supplies on January 27 for purely political reasons, even though technical restoration is possible."
Statements about halting diesel exports to Ukraine also came from the Slovak side.
According to Slovak media, Prime Minister Robert Fico also said Slovakia could suspend emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.
