CoE Secretary General Berset donates funds from Lord Byron Prize to Ukrainian Red Cross Society
Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset has donated Lord Byron Prize funds to the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS).
“The Ukrainian Red Cross has received a charitable donation from the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, in support of its humanitarian activities,” URCS said on Facebook.
The initiative was carried out in cooperation with the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism — the organisers of the Lord Byron Prize. The decision to donate the funds, personally initiated by Alain Berset, was taken in connection with his award of the prize.
Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, Maksym Dotsenko, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and personally expressed his gratitude for the support provided. In his turn, Berset commended the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross in humanitarian response and in assisting people affected by the war.
