Zelenskyy: Ukraine closer to completing negotiations on military track than on political one
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following a trilateral meeting in Geneva (Switzerland), believes that Ukraine is closer to completing negotiations on the military track than on the political one.
"I believe it is good that we held a trilateral meeting in Switzerland. We respect and value partners from the Middle East and other countries. But, in my opinion, if the war is taking place in Europe, then we must find a place in Europe. There were two groups: a military group and a political one. We are closer to completing negotiations on the military track than on the political one," he wrote on Telegram.
The president emphasized that the military in the trilateral format discussed how to develop a ceasefire monitoring mission for when it is established, once the political direction opens these opportunities.
He also added that they discussed details, technical nuances, and the capabilities of both sides. This primarily concerned the Americans, as they will have a leading role in monitoring.
According to Zelenskyy, a difficult discussion is ongoing regarding the role of Europeans.
"For us, their role is of great importance. It is important that we have American partners. But I emphasize time and again that, in my opinion, we also need European representatives. Thus, on the military track, they are closer to a result – a draft with all the details on how to carry out monitoring immediately after the ceasefire," he said.
