Russian attacks, bad weather leave residents of Odesa and 8 regions without power
As of the morning of January 16, as a result of hostilities and shelling of energy infrastructure, consumers in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, and Odesa regions have lost power, Artem Nekrasov, First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, has said.
"Emergency restoration work has already begun wherever security conditions allow," he said at a briefing on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and National Power Company (NPC) Ukrenergo, a significant part of consumers in Odesa remain without power as a result of drone strikes.Odesa region, Nekrasov added.
In addition, due to adverse weather conditions in the form of gusts of wind and accumulation of wet snow, 178 settlements in eight regions were completely or partially de-energized on Monday morning: Odesa, Mykolaiv, Khmelnytsky, Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk.
Repair teams of the regional energy companies are already restoring damaged lines.
"As a result of previous massive Russian attacks, power limitation schedules for industry, as well as hourly outage schedules for all categories of consumers, are currently in effect in most regions of Ukraine," Ukrenergo noted.
Emergency outages have been forced in some regions, and previously announced hourly outage schedules are currently not in effect there.
