Chinese FM: Doors open for dialogue in Ukraine
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, said that "the door to dialogue in Ukraine is open, and all parties should strive to reach a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement and address the root causes of the conflict."
"The door to dialogue on the ‘Ukrainian crisis’ [Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine] has finally opened. All interested parties must seize this opportunity to reach a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement, address the root causes of the conflict, and ensure lasting peace and stability in Europe," he said.
According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, "Europe should not watch this from the sidelines. It was here in Munich last year, when cooperation with Russia began, that Europe seemed to remain a bystander. And I said then that since the conflict erupted here in Europe, Europe has every right to participate in the negotiations at the appropriate time," he noted.
"I said that Europe shouldn’t be on the menu, but at the table. Now we see that Europe has found the courage to negotiate with Russia. This is good, and we support it," Wang Yi emphasized.
At the same time, he stated that "China is not a party directly involved in the conflict. We do not have the final say. We are only facilitating peace negotiations."
As previously reported, Wang Yi met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich.
