Ukrainian MP and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko believes the deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine is the only way to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, the party said on the website on Friday.

"The only way to stop the war is 'boots on the ground' on Ukrainian territory. It is cheaper and more reliable to have NATO troops on Ukrainian soil than NATO troops in Poland," Poroshenko told reporters on the sidelines of Munich Security Conference, which is taking place on February 13-15 and in which he is participating.

He also stressed the importance of preserving transatlantic unity. "If we are divided, we will lose. "We' are NATO, Ukraine, the USA. And then Putin will win. But when we are united, Putin simply has no chance... We have no other way out but to reach an agreement, to stick together is our goal," the politician said.

Poroshenko also stressed that the future of not only Ukraine, but also Europe and global security in general is being decided now. He also warned the West against Vladimir Putin's illusion of appeasement. "This is impossible. I know this for sure, because I have five years of experience in negotiations with Putin. A great success was simply stopping the war by signing a ceasefire agreement, understanding that there can be no peace agreement with Putin, because this is impossible," he said.

According to him, it is impossible to stop the war simply with money or weapons, and without troops on the ground, instead, it is possible to do this using the mechanism of NATO's Article 5. "Day after day, month after month, more and more people understand this, including in the United States. They will not be able to avoid the presence of troops on Ukrainian territory if they want to stop the war," Poroshenko said.
