Senior military hospital official detained over draft evasion scheme – SBU
The State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in cooperation with the Office of the Prosecutor General and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has eliminated a scheme to evade mobilization at the Main Military Clinical Hospital of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the SBU reported on Wednesday.
"As a result of joint measures, a high-ranking official of the center for organizing the protection and defense of the facilities of this institution was detained," the report says.
As the investigation established, the defendant registered acquaintances in his unit, who subsequently did not appear at the state institution and did not begin to perform official tasks.
According to the case materials, among his clients were citizens of draft age who evaded mobilization. After being enrolled in the defense department, these individuals were fictitiously registered for military service.
"At the same time, the salary cards of the "workers" were in the possession of the defendant, who withdrew money from there. It is documented how, since May 2022, the official "earned" UAH 2.6 million in this way," the report says.
During the searches, money and documentation with evidence of the transaction were found on the detainee.
Investigators of the Security Service informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of property by abuse of official position, committed on an especially large scale).
Currently, a preventive measure in the form of detention has been chosen for him. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In addition to him, two of his "clients" have been suspected. Their actions have been qualified as evasion of military service by self-mutilation or in another way, committed under martial law. For this, they face up to 10 years in prison.
The complex measures were carried out under the procedural guidance of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
