Zelenskyy signs decree allowing men over 60 to serve under military contract

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree On amendments to the Regulations on military service by citizens of Ukraine in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, in particular, allows persons over 60 to serve in military service under a contract for a period of one year with the right to extend.

"With persons over 60 years of age who, during martial law in accordance with Part 10 of Article 20 of the Law of Ukraine On military duty and military service, are accepted for military service under a contract – for a period of one year," according to the text of the decree.

The decree also regulates the process of enlisting such persons in the army.

In addition, the decree regulates the legal status of cadets, students, adjuncts and doctoral students of higher military educational institutions, military educational units of higher education institutions (scientific institutions in the system of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine).
