Estonia bans more than 1,000 more Russian fighters from entering Schengen zone – PM

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced that the country has banned another 1,073 fighters, who fought against Ukraine, from entering the Schengen area.

“Estonia has banned another 1,073 combatants who fought against Ukraine from entering the Schengen Area. Around 1.5 million people have taken part in Russia’s aggression. They return home with violence. Serious crime is rising. And this risk does not stop at borders. Europe must act now to protect our people and hold the aggressor accountable,” he said on X.

In response, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko expressed gratitude for Estonia’s "clear and responsible decision."

“Those who have taken part in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine cannot be treated in Europe as ordinary visitors with unrestricted access to our societies. Estonia has shown how this challenge should be addressed — firmly, lawfully, and with a clear understanding of our shared responsibility. I call on other European countries to follow this approach. Protecting Europe requires unity, consistency, and clear consequences for participation in war and violence,” she wrote under Michal’s post.
