Only Ukraine can operate ZNPP – Energoatom head on possibility of interstate use of plant
Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) belongs to Ukraine, and from a technical point of view only Ukraine can operate it, while its joint use is impossible, Acting Chairman of the Board of NNEGC Energoatom Pavlo Kovtoniuk has said.
"Politicians are apparently discussing some options for possible joint use of ZNPP. But from the point of view of technical specialists and Energoatom as the operator of all NPPs, this is impossible. Only Ukraine can operate ZNPP. Only Ukraine has licenses for all its elements, from reactors to control systems," he said at a briefing at one of the NPPs on Friday.
"What Russia is trying to do by issuing itself a license is absurd. Because, for example, it has neither the projects nor licenses for Westinghouse nuclear fuel," Kovtoniuk added.
