Some 1,146 homes in Kyiv without heat, Darnytsia TPP almost completely destroyed, its restoration started – Kuleba
Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba reported that 1,146 homes are without heat as a result of Russian shelling of energy infrastructure.
"Currently, we have 1,146 homes without heat in Kyiv. They are currently heated exclusively by electricity. We understand and are aware of all the problems these people face. We are constantly coordinating with the city of Kyiv on all needs," Kuleba said during a visit by 60 foreign ambassadors to the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant in the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday.
According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, the deputy prime minister stated that the Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant served approximately 500,000 people in Kyiv, but since the start of the heating season, it has been attacked five times by ballistic missiles and drones and is now almost completely destroyed.
"You are here today after yesterday's attack, when the enemy launched five ballistic missiles, aimed precisely at the only thing that remained operational here—the equipment that supplied heat to the population. This occurred on the coldest night Kyiv has ever seen. Temperatures reached -26 degrees Celsius. As a result, as you can see, the station is now almost completely destroyed," he said.
According to Kuleba, restoration of the station has already begun. "We have two days to technically determine when and to what extent we can restore the station's operation. After that, we can make some predictions. It's still quite difficult to say anything at this point," he said.
In total, according to the deputy prime minister, more than 20 rockets have hit the capital's thermal power plants since the start of the heating season.
Moreover, during such strikes, the occupiers use ballistic missiles with shrapnel, which destroy heating mains and complicate restoration work.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Russian occupiers "are also using extremely cold weather as a weapon against the population, and against vulnerable segments of the population, who are currently experiencing the most difficult conditions."
"All this suggests that the enemy is simply incapable of the ceasefires they talked about," he said.
Kuleba reported that Ukrainian authorities have appealed to partner countries for help with the necessary equipment. "We need generators of various capacities, cogeneration units, and modular boiler houses. Specifically, to help those people who are left without heat today."
