Ukraine and the EU should speed up the process of relaxation of requirements for issuing visas to Ukrainian citizens, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Andriy Kliuyev has said.
Kliuyev expressed this opinion while commenting on a decision of the European Commission to recommend that the EU sign amendments to the visa facilitation agreement with Ukraine, according to the press service of the National Security and Defense Council.
The NSDC secretary said that Ukraine has complied with many of the requirements of the EU in order to progress in the simplification of its visa regime with the EU, and has done enormous legislative work.
According to him, holding of the Euro-2012 European Football Championship in Ukraine and Poland has clearly shown to residents of the EU that the country can do a great deal based on the highest European standards. In particular, Ukraine can properly interact with its European neighbors in security issues, in combating crime, migration, border and customs control, and the development of tourism.
In his opinion, the further simplification of visa regime will have a positive impact not only on the development of the economies of Ukraine and the EU states, but also on the human interaction between their residents.
