Ukraine and Russia may sign an agreement on the delimitation of the maritime stretch of the joint border and of the Kerch Strait following a meeting of the Ukrainian-Russian Interstate Commission in Yalta on July 12, according to the Kommersant-Ukraine Newspaper.
The newspaper's sources said that ten documents were to be signed as a result of the meeting. At the same time, the gas supply issues will remain unresolved, and there will be no agreement on key issues of the Black Sea Fleet's deployment in Ukraine, the sources said.
According to the newspaper, the Kerch Strait will be divided along the line drawn by Ukraine or close to it. Tuzla Island and the Kerch-Yenikale shipping channel will remain Ukrainian territory. The parties reached a compromise concerning the Sea of Azov - the final borderline will go between those drawn by Ukraine and Russia. The agreement will also divide the Pallas oil and gas field in the Black Sea, thus opening the possibility for joint oil and gas exploration and production.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine declined to comment on this report to Interfax-Ukraine.
