Ukraine welcomes the holding of elections to the National Assembly of Libya on July 7, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has reported.
"We note that the elections in this country, the first in the last 40 years, were generally democratic and they were held in accordance with international norms and standards," the ministry said in a statement.
Ukraine hopes that the beginning of the activity of the National Assembly will soon create the necessary prerequisites for achieving political and economic stability in Libya, as well as establishing democracy and the rule of law.
"In this regard, we expect a fair solution to the problem of detained Ukrainian citizens, who have been in custody in Libya for a long time. This issue will be a priority for the development of Ukrainian-Libyan relations," the ministry said.
