Underlying inflation in Ukraine in June 2012 slows to 3.7%, says statistics

Underlying inflation in Ukraine in June 2012 was 0.1%, the same as in May, the State Statistics Service has reported.

In annual terms it slowed to 3.7%, from 4.2% in May, from 4.7% in April, from 5.3% in March, from 6.1% in February, and from 6.6% in January 2012.

In general, underlying inflation since the beginning of 2012 amounts to 0.4%.

The service said that in June 2011 underlying inflation was 0.6%, and in annual terms it totaled 8.3%.

National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Governor Volodymyr Stelmakh said in September 2010 that underlying inflation was the main reference point for determining the discount rate, which still remains at 7.75%.

Underlying inflation does not include short-term irregular changes in prices influenced by various factors of an administrative, event-based or seasonal character. For instance, it does not include changes in the price of food and energy.
