Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has proposed holding an all-Ukrainian roundtable on language issues.
"I was advised to calm down. I also advise everyone to calm down, including those who are in parliament, those who took to the streets, those who take radical decisions at the level of local government, and those who are gathered at the Ukrainian House. It would be nice if everyone agreed to enter the Ukrainian House and organize an all-Ukrainian roundtable there, with the participation of the government and the opposition," he said during an online conference on Facebook on Friday.
Lytvyn said that in the process of the dialog the government and the opposition should "demonstrate their responsibility to the country, which is once again humiliated, and their ability to make recommendations that would at least not escalate a split in the country."
He said that if a reasonable compromise is found, it will be necessary to realize it through a decision of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, abandoning the usual practice of blocking the parliament’s work.
The speaker reiterated that he would not sign the language law, since it was adopted in violation of the Verkhovna Rada's rules of procedure.
