Ukraine will fulfill any decision of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) on the lawsuit of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukrainian Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych has said.
"We will fulfill it," the minister told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday, when asked what will the Ukrainian authorities do if the Grand Chamber of the ECHR upholds the court's ruling in the Lutsenko case.
When asked whether Ukraine has funds to pay compensation to the ex-minister, Lavrynovych said, "They are foreseen in the national budget of Ukraine."
As reported, on July 3, the ECHR ruled that the arrest of Ukraine's former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko violated his human rights. The court also obliged Ukraine to pay Lutsenko EUR 15,000 in compensation for moral damage.
The court's ruling is not final and an appeal can be filed within three months.
The EU stated that the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in the case against former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko confirms the concerns over the supremacy of law and politically motivated trials in Ukraine expressed by the European Union earlier.
