Ukraine to harvest 47 m t of grain in 2012, says Ukrainian premier

The grain harvest in Ukraine this year will reach 47 million tonnes, according to Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov.

"I think that 47 [million tonnes of grain] is the forecast. We've calculated it from various points of view. I think that we'll achieve [this target]," he said in Kyiv on Tuesday during consultations with nongovernmental organizations operating in the agriculture sector.

He said that Ukraine this year faced bad weather for planting crops.

Azarov said that the expected gross grain harvest is good, adding that for example, in 2010, the country threshed around 23 million tonnes of grain.
