Premier: Ukraine lost about 10 years in technological and technical development

Ukrainian government is intended to actively support high-tech enterprises, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has reported.

"The government will actively support such enterprises," he said in Kharkiv on Friday after visiting of FED Kharkiv Machine Building Plant state-run enterprise.

According to the premier, Ukraine lost ten years because of the cancelation of free economic areas and territories for priority development.

"If in 2005 the concept for the creation in Ukraine of free economic areas, priority developed territories, industrial parks, for example the Slobozhanschyna industrial park [based on the FED plant] hadn't been destroyed, Ukraine would be at a completely different stage of development…It distresses me greatly to think that Ukraine lost about ten years of its technological and technical development. The achievements that we see at this enterprise are very important in implementing other projects, branches and we'll do this," he said.

Azarov also noted that he wanted to visit the FED plant and the Slobozhanschyna industrial park a long time ago, since this is one of the leading enterprises producing aggregates in Ukraine.

"These are engineering enterprises and it's very pleasant that such an engineering enterprise hasn't just overcome crisis, but became stronger after it - more technologically developed. Those samples of the production that they elaborate and produce, are at the international level, and in some way exceed that [level]," Azarov said.
