Yanukovych congratulates Ukrainian squad on their victory over Sweden

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated the Ukrainian national football team and all its fans with a brilliant victory over Sweden.

Yanukovych praised the performances of Ukrainian footballers in their opening match in the group stage of the UEFA Euro 2012 European Football Championship, the presidential press service reported on Tuesday.

The president noted that the combination of youth and experience allowed the team to show grit and win.

"I congratulate all of us with a brilliant victory," the president said.

Ukraine defeated Sweden 2-1 in Kyiv on June 11.
