Production of goods and services in Ukraine in January falls by 33.2%, says economy ministry

The index for the production of goods and services in key types of economic activities in Ukraine in January 2008 fell by 33.2%, according to a monthly macroeconomic survey drawn up by the Economy Ministry and published on Monday.

"The start of 2009 was characterized by continuing negative trends [seen since] the end of 2008. The deepening of the international financial crisis and shutting down of production facilities in some countries, a fall in demand and prices on the international commodity markets, a cut in financing from almost all sources has affected the real economic sector," reads the document.

"Construction and industry saw the largest losses," the ministry said.
