Social policy minister proposes to introduce 12% duty on deals with offshore companies

Vice Premier and Social Policy Minister of Ukraine Sergiy Tigipko has proposed to introduce a 12% duty on transactions with offshore companies to replenish the Pension Fund, his press service reported on Tuesday.

"We propose to introduce a 12% duty on transactions with offshore companies. Funds obtained from the duty will go to the Pension Fund – to pay and increase pensions – [and total] around one billion hryvnias," he said, commenting on a draft law on amendments to the law on the obligatory pension insurance fee.

The minister said that the adoption of the law would allow not only the replenishing of the budget of the Pension Fund, but would also ensure the resumption of fair competition in the economy.

The minister also said that at present his ministry is being drawn up an extended list of offshore zones.

"Now we're preparing the extended list of offshore zones - from 33 to 68. This will allow is to additionally obtain around UAH 2 billion for our pensioners," he said.

The press service said that the Social Policy Ministry put the draft law on tax on luxuries up for discussion. It is expected that income from the tax will reach UAH 800 million per year. The funds will be sent to pay pensions.
