Ukraine sees 40% rise in sugar production since start of sugar beet processing season

Sugar refineries in Ukraine by November 21, 2011 had produced 1.94 million tonnes of sugar from sugar beet of the new harvest, which is 40% up year-over-year, the Ukrtsukor national association of sugar producers has told Interfax-Ukraine.

The association said that as of November 21 a total of 49 companies produced sugar, while year-over-year only 33 companies processed sugar beet.

The refineries accepted 16.35 million tonnes of beets and processed 14.67 million tonnes.

As reported, referring to the forecast of the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, this season Ukraine will produce 2.1-2.2 million tonnes of sugar from sugar beet, compared to 1.54 million tonnes last season.
