The Ministry of Health of Ukraine proposes all forms of tobacco advertising be prohibited, the ministry's press service has said.
"On September 4, 2011 five years had passed since the coming into force for Ukraine of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the world's first international treaty on public health, which was unanimously approved at the World Health Assembly on May 21, 2003. The convention has been ratified by 174 countries, including our country," said the press service.
In addition, the press service reports that "due to the implementation in Ukraine of such convention points as the increase of tobacco taxes and prices, the gradual release of public and work places from tobacco smoke, the informing of consumers on the effects of smoking, etc., Ukraine has managed to significantly reduce the prevalence of smoking, which is certified in the data of the State Statistics Service and the third report of the World Health Organization on the global tobacco epidemic."
