The largest file hosting service in Ukraine, EX.UA, has signed agreements on cooperation with Ukrainian copyright holders of music content, reads a press release of the service.
The report says that the contracts were signed with the following companies: Honest Music publishing company, Talant Group, Moon Records, Ukrainian Music Publishing Group (UMPG), Lavina Music, mаmаmusic and other copyright holders.
"There are no platforms to distribute electronic content in Ukraine. The old technology of distribution is out of date. There isn't even anywhere to insert a disk, when we're talking about tablets or smartphones. Today we're taking the first step in introducing new forms of cooperation with copyright holders," reads the release, citing a representative of EX.UA, Yuris Piskovoy.
The downloading of albums of Ukrainian and Russian musicians to the EX.UA service will start in August 2011.
In late 2010, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) pointed to EX.UA as being an illicit online site based overseas that actively encourages and facilitates music theft.
In early 2011, the file hosting service launched a policy to legalize the content posted on its site.
