The Interdepartmental Commission for International Trade has recommended that the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers introduce quotas on imports of cars from Uzbekistan with up to 2.2-liter engines for three years and in a volume of three cars per year, reads a posting on the Web site of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry.
The cabinet will decide on this matter in line with the established order, reads the posting.
According to the report, the commission recommended that these measures be introduced after it considered evidence of the violation of the rights and interests of Ukrainian automobile manufacturers by the Republic of Uzbekistan during the realization of Ukrainian products on the Uzbek market
In particular, the commission established that the introduction by Uzbekistan of excise duty on imports of cars from Ukraine ($4,680, or 69.9% of the customs cost) exceeds by almost 14 times the excise duty introduced on Russian cars, and by 2.4 times the excise duty on cars produced in Uzbekistan.
