MPs Valeriy Kamchatny and Ivan Sidelnik have proposed to permit the privatization of Mykolaiv-based Zorya-Mashproekt, a famous designer and producer of gas turbine equipment.
Draft law No. 8734 on amendments to the list of companies that are not subject to privatization was submitted to the Ukrainian parliament on July 1, 2011.
According to an explanatory note to the draft, the exclusion of Zorya-Mashproekt from the said list will create favorable conditions for raising investment. This will result in the upgrade of fixed assets, the boosting of production, the introduction of modern technologies, a reduction in power consumption and an increase in national budget revenues.
The authors of the draft said that state ownership of Zorya-Mashproekt was pointless.
As reported, recently the government submitted a draft law proposing to reduce the list of companies that are not subject to privatization, although Zorya-Mashproekt was kept on the list.
Zorya-Mashproekt is a monopolist in the CIS in the design and production of gas turbines for navy ships. Almost all of the products manufactured by the company are exported. Its largest partners are Russia, Belarus, Iran, Singapore, India, and China.
According to the company, in 2010 its sales went up by 10% year-over-year, to UAH 2.32 billion.
