Coal Sector Policy Support Program experts recommending liquidation of Coal of Ukraine state company

The Ukrainian government should liquidate state-run company Coal of Ukraine or privatize it under the strictest supervision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

The recommendation is stipulated in a strategy drawn up after the implementation of the TACIS project "Coal Sector Policy Support Program" funded by the European Union.

Team Leader of the Coal Industry Strategy project, Wojtek Mlodziejewski, said at the presentation of the strategy in Kyiv on Wednesday that the liquation of Coal of Ukraine and introduction of market mechanisms for coal price formation are obligatory steps for successful reformation of the sector.

In turn, First Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Popovych supported the idea to liquidate the state-run company, although he said that it is better to liquidate Coal of Ukraine after the privatization of state-run coalmines.
