Kyiv-based Nadra Bank has demanded that the Ukrainian premier stop groundless accusations about its operations, the bank has reported.
"Nadra Bank demands from Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko to stop all groundless accusations, as these actions do harm to depositors, which number today over 4 million people... The premier's groundless accusations destabilize not only Nadra Bank's activities, but also the whole financial system," reads the bank's statement.
The bank also denied the premier's accusations about its speculations on the financial market.
"Nadra Bank denies all accusations of Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko on the bank's participation in any corrupt schemes and speculation on the Ukrainian financial market. Refinancing funds received by Nadra Bank from the regulator were sent to replace clients' funds and pay off foreign loans," reads the report.
The bank was established in 1993. As of October 1, 2008, its largest shareholders were Novartik Trading Limited (60.967%) and Manmade Enterprises Limited (both based in Cyprus, 30.7406%). However, in early November, Group DF, which unites assets of co-owner of RosUkrEnergo gas trader, Dmytro Firtash, said that it bought a controlling stake in the bank.
The bank on October 1, 2008 ranked 7th among Ukraine's 181 operating banks in terms of overall assets, worth UAH 26.186 billion, according to the National Bank of Ukraine.
In early November 2008, Group DF, which belongs to Dmytro Firtash, said that it plans to buy a controlling stake in the bank. The deal could be completed in May 2009.
