The price for Russian gas approved by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko for Ukraine is the highest in Europe, Head of Energy Research Centre Kostiantyn Borodin has said.
"In Q1, Romania has a price of $470 per 1,000 cubic meters, and in all other countries it is lower. Ukraine has a basic price of $450 without a discount, which it won't have for nine years out of ten of the contract term, though even with the present low transit tariffs the gas prices at the Russian border should be $25 less than for Romania," he said.
According to Borodin, taking as a basis the price for Germany of $450, which pays for its gas on a similar basis to Ukraine, payments for gas transportation of $50-80 should be knocked off the price.
"Therefore, considering there is a 20% discount, the price should be $320, not $360," he said.
