The value of construction in Ukraine in 2008 fell by 16% year-on-year to UAH 64.363 billion, while in 2007 the growth was 15.8%, the State Statistics Committee reported on January 15.
In December, the value of construction fell by 9.7% year-over-year and grew by 20.8% compared to November 2008, to UAH 6.751 billion.
According to the committee, in 2008 the volume of work across the industry fell, in particular, in construction site preparation by 10.3%, in building and facility construction by 16.3%, and in installation works by 14.3%.
New construction, reconstruction and technical re-equipment were 80.7% of total state volume, overhauls – 14.3%, and current repairs – 5%.
Companies in all regions posted a decrease in the volume of construction in 2008, apart from Sevastopol and Chernivtsi region, where the rise of 3.25 and 8.4% respectively was seen. Construction volumes dropped especially significantly in the regions of Chernihiv, Luhansk and Vinnytsia (by 27.2-32.2%), while in Kyiv and Donetsk region the fall was 15.7% and 13.9% respectively.
