Ukraine's parliament has not supported a government draft law to set by June 1, 2011 a zero import duty on condensed milk, cream powder, cream granules, butter, potato, rye and buckwheat.
Some 183 MPs voted to approve the bill, and 209 MPs for a repeated first reading.
The Bloc of Lytvyn mostly abstained from the vote. The draft law was criticized by parliamentarians during discussion.
As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers registered a relevant draft law in the Verkhovna Rada on October 12.
Currently the import duty on condensed milk, cream powder, cream granules, butter and potato (apart from seed potatoes) is 10% and that on for rye and buckwheat is 20%.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said he opposed the nullification of the import duty on condensed milk, cream powder, cream granules, butter, potato, rye and buckwheat.
