Ukraine wants to cooperate with Syria in energy sphere, says first vice premier

Ukraine wants to cooperate with Syria in the fuel and energy sphere, according to First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Kliuyev.

The vice premier's press service reported that Kliuyev said this at a meeting with Syrian Finance Minister Muhammad Al-Hussein as a part of a meeting of the Ukrainian-Syrian commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation in Kyiv on Monday.

Kliuyev said that Syria is one of the most important and promising trade partners of Ukraine among the Middle East and North African countries.

At the meeting, Kliuyev said that Ukrainian companies are interested in work in the technical servicing of Syrian power plants, providing supplies of spare parts and constructing new power plants. Cooperation in the consumption of renewable energy sources in remote settlements in Syria was also discussed.

In turn, Syria proposed to its Ukrainian partners to create joint ventures for the production of modern electro-technical equipment (transformers, switches, power transmission lines and electronic digital meters) and to study the creation of a joint venture for the production of generators and electric motors.
