The issue of trains transiting Ukraine for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi has to be discussed during the visit of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to Kyiv, Director General of state railways administration Ukrzaliznytsia Mykhailo Kostiuk has said.
"Ukrzaliznytsia ,on behalf of the Ukrainian president, is creating conditions for Russian trains running to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games to Sochi pass through Ukraine. This is the conventional route. It is profitable for Ukrainian railways. We will get additional revenues, while Russia will get the shortest route," Kostiuk said in Dnipropetrovsk on Tuesday.
He also noted there would be discussions with Putin on the issue of simplifying customs controls on trains on the Kyiv-Moscow route.
"We need to simplify customs controls to ensure the peaceful transportation of passengers at night," said Kostiuk.
