Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov sees great untapped potential of the Ukrainian-Canadian bilateral trade and economic relations.
"Ukraine's economy is export-oriented and depends much on foreign markets," he said at a meeting with Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Kyiv on Monday.
Azarov said that the Ukrainian government wants to make the country's economy competitive, lower electricity consumption and create conditions for investments.
The Ukrainian premier noted the insufficient trade in commodities between the two states.
"Volume of our trade does not meet the potential of either Ukraine, or Canada. We have much to offer Canada. I believe Canada has much to offer us. That is why the potential of cooperation is great," Azarov added.
Azarov also told the Canadian prime minister that he as the head of government supports liberalization of Ukraine's economy and holding negotiations on free trade zone with the European Union and wants to simplify various permits and other procedures.
