The Walt Disney Company has launched local broadcasting of the Disney Channel in Ukraine and hopes that it will become the most popular channel for children, as well as a leader among all Ukrainian TV channels, Vice President and General Manager of Disney Channels in Central and Eastern Europe Maciej Bral has said.

According to him, all countries in Eastern Europe in which it is broadcast, in particular, in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania, Disney Channel was the most popular TV channel for children as of July 2010, even though in some of these countries it was only launched in September 2009.

The general manager added that the channel is aimed at three different target groups: children aged from two to seven years old, children aged from six to fourteen years old, and their parents. Due to this, in some countries the percentage of the adult audience reaches 44-53%, which allows the channel to remain the leader among other theme channels, and in some states it is in second and third place.

Bral referred to Ukrainian data about 19 million homes with access to pay-to-view television in Ukraine, and added that the company intends to cooperate with all cabel and satellite operators of Ukraine on a paid basis.

He also stressed that Disney Channel will be completely adapted to the Ukrainian market. He added that during studying the television audience, communicating with operators and business partners, the company learned that Ukraine is an effectively bilingual country, which is why programs will be broadcasted in both the Ukrainian and Russian languages, although Ukrainian will remain the priority language.

The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) is one of the leaders in the entertainment industry. It is represented in five business-sectors: media-networks, parks and resorts, studios, consumer products and interactive entertainment.
