President notes need to create energy exchange in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has stressed the importance of creating an energy exchange in Ukraine to strengthen the country's energy independence.

"I think that an energy exchange must be created in Ukraine. We must choose either we have communism/socialism and prices will be set … by officials or they will be determined by the market - demand and supply, taking into account imports. I'm sure the exchange needs to be created," he said at the press conference "Challenges 2018" in Kyiv.

In general, according to Poroshenko, the state should move away from price regulation.

"If one producer has a higher cost, another has a lower cost, an official of any rank should not regulate prices for sugar, petrol or meat. This only leads to galloping inflation or uncontrollable price increases," the president said.

As reported, a group of people's deputies in early September 2017 registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on the capital market and regulated markets (No. 7055), which determines conditions for creating a full-fledged market of commodity derivatives in the country.
