Ukrainians buy $29 m more currency than they sell in May

The Ukrainian public in May 2010 bought $29 million more in foreign currency than it sold, while in April the figure was $62 million, the Web site of the National Bank of Ukraine has reported.

According to the report, Ukrainians in May sold $1.3997 billion in foreign currency to the banks, and bought $1.4287 billion.

The total volume of deals on the cash market in May fell by 1.8% compared to April, to $2.8284 billion.

According to the NBU, the volume of individuals' bank deposits in freely convertible currency last month shrank by $65.3 million, to $14.636 billion.
