Yanukovych's plan of reforms foresees introduction of economically grounded electricity tariffs

The strategy of economic reforms for 2010-2014 of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych foresees the gradual introduction of economically grounded electricity tariffs along with targeted social assistance, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Boiko said at a meeting of the committee for economic reforms on June 2, while presenting the program.

"The main principles of reform in these spheres are exchanging lower consumer prices for targeted social assistance, transferring to economically grounded methods for setting tariffs, granting free access to private companies to the market and facilitating competitiveness, and completing the sector market transformation, including through privatization," the minister said.

According to Boiko, the main purpose of the reforms in the electricity sector is to ensure the uninterrupted provision of Ukraine's economy with electricity.
