The sowing campaign in Ukraine this year will be start later than usual because of bad weather, Agriculture Minister Yuriy Melnyk has reported.
"We can say that there is some delay in the spring sowing campaign. Last year, by this date, we had sown about 200,000 hectares, while this year we are only starting additional fertilizing [of winter crops] in the very southern regions," the minister told journalists on Wednesday.
Melnyk said that currently 7% of areas sown with winter crops are covered with ice, and last year there was no such situation.
