State Railways Administration Ukrzaliznytsia is intending to implement the third stage of its program to sell tickets via the Internet in the first half of 2010, Nina Kostrubytska, the head of the department for IT management at the company, has said at a press conference.
"We have developed software for formalizing electronic tickets. Now we are checking how the bar code is read. There are two options: either the train conductor or the train head will have a device. There is another option: the device could be located at the station," she said.
According to Kostrubytska, each of the options proposed is being agreed with all interested ministries and authorities.
Dmytro Podturkin, the head of the analytical group at the Management Consulting Group consortium, said that the implementation of the third stage also demands amendments be made to legislation.
As reported, on December 22, 2008, Ukrzaliznytsia implemented the first stage of a project to sell tickets via the Internet. Passengers book tickets on the Web site of Ukrzaliznytsia, pay for booking the ticket with the help of a payment card, receive a bar code, and then buy their ticket at a railway booking office on presenting the bar code. The second stage of the program was introduced on March 30 2009.
