NBU ready to loosen forex deposit requirements amid further stabilization

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) is ready to raise the limit on the daily withdrawal of forex deposits from banks, which at the moment is set at UAH 15,000, according to NBU Vice Governor Oleh Churiy.

"Easing requirements for forex deposits is the first step, which we will do in the case of occurrence of certain events. The certain events include, first of all, the stabilization of the national currency," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Commenting on the possibility of lifting existing restrictions on the purchase of foreign currency set at UAH 3,000 per day, Churiy said: "Let's reschedule this issue for a later date."

As reported, on February 28, 2014, the NBU set the limit on cash withdrawn in foreign currency by bank clients from current and deposit accounts at banks' cash desks and ATMs to UAH 15,000 per day per one client, set in the equivalent at the NBU's official forex rate. On September 22, 2014, it capped sales of foreign currency to UAH 3,000 to one person per day.
