The two state mobile communications operators being formed in Crimea and Sevastopol will coordinate their operations and may be joined into a unified operator, Crimean Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Polonsky said.
"The company heads have said that both tariff policies of the two operators and their overall policy toward subscribers will in any event be unified. Krymtelekom and Sevtelekom will not interfere with each other or compete on the mobile communications market," Polonsky, who is also the minister of information and communications, told journalists on Thursday.
Formation of a unified mobile operator that would operate throughout the Crimean Federal District makes sense, he said. "There is usefulness in that. So that tourists who come to Crimea or Sevastopol don't have to choose which operator's card to buy and know that there is a unified operator," he said. "But we, of course, we will discuss and coordinate this idea with the leadership in Sevastopol," Polonsky said.
The authorities in Crimea are creating a regional mobile operator based on Krymtelekom and the authorities in Sevastopol are creating one based on the Sevtelekom state enterprise. At present, K-Telekom is the sole mobile operator in Crimea, providing services under the WIN-Mobile brand.
