Lviv Railways from March 15, 2015 will service suburban train passengers under the new revised tariffs.
According to a press release issued by Lviv Railways, the price of tickets will range from UAH 4.50 to UAH 27.60 depending on distance.
Lviv Railways' press service has told Interfax-Ukraine that the tariffs for suburban trips are set under an agreement with regional administrations. Previously, the tariffs differed in each of the seven regions where Lviv Railways operates. However, Lviv Railways agreed the single range of tariffs for suburban trips with all seven regional administrations and it will take effect on March 15.
The new tariffs are slightly higher than the current tariffs. Lviv Railways said the increase in the tariffs is due to the large increase in fuel and lubricants expenses and the general increase in the cost of the servicing, repair and exploitation of rolling stock.
"Previously the tariffs for suburban passenger transportation at Lviv Railways were revised in March 2011. Since then the tariffs have not been revised. The railways said that in 2014 its revenue from suburban passenger transportation totaled UAH 83.4 million, maintenance costs were UAH 892.7 million and losses stood at UAH 809.5 million. Revenue covers expenses only by 9.3%," reads the press release.
Lviv Railways said that the price of a full fare ticket in the tier one suburban transportation zone (1-5 kilometers) is set at UAH 4.50, for the tier two zone (5-10 km) – UAH 5, for the tier three zone (11-20 km) – UAH 6, for the tier four zone (21-30 km) – UAH 8, for the tier five zone (31-40 km) – UAH 9, etc. The price of a full fare ticket for the furthest suburban transportation zone (221-230 km) is set at UAH 27.60.
For children the price of a ticket for the tier one suburban transportation zone is UAH 3.38, and for the furthest zone – UAH 20.69.
For students the price of a ticket for the tier one suburban transportation zone is UAH 2.24, and for the furthest zone – UAH 13.80.
"If we compare suburban transportation with road [transportation] for the same distances it costs three or five times more," Lviv Railways said.
Lviv Railways operates in the south-western part of Ukraine in six regions: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, and Volyn.
