NBU weakens official hryvnia exchange rate to new historic minimum UAH 13.365/$1
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) from 1400 weakened the official exchange rate of the hryvnia from UAH 13.112790/$1 to UAH 13.365434/$1, breaking the historic minimum registered on August 20 at UAH 13.223077/$1.
According to information on the NBU's Web site, the hryvnia decreased from UAH 3.6199/RUR 10 to UAH 3.6768/RUR 10, which is the worst indicator in the history of the national currency.
The new official hryvnia exchange rate to the euro came to UAH 17.725239/EUR 1 compared to UAH 17.419030/EUR 1 a day before, which was the second its minimum indicator after UAH 18.001819/EUR 1 seen on April 14, 2014.
Market players told Interfax-Ukraine that on the interbank quotations on Wednesday started from UAH 13.30/13.50/$1 and fell to UAH 13.45/13.65/$1 by 1340. Then the fall stopped.
The volume trading is very low: as of 1330 it came only to $13.7 million, while a day before it was $40.6 million.
The market players said that the hryvnia is devaluating despite the increase in the obligatory sale of currency income by the National Bank of Ukraine from August 21.
Dealers said that the NBU has not entered the market.
The NBU from April 4 calculates the official hryvnia ehxcnage rate to the U.S. dollar as an average weighted exchange rate of sellers and buyers for the current working day according to the deal confirmation system of the interbank currency market of Ukraine.
