The Agriculture Ministry of Ukraine has not changed its forecast for sunflower harvest in 2009, and has kept it at the level of 6 million tonnes, Agriculture Minister Yuriy Melnyk has told journalists in Kyiv.
"We are not going to change [the plan], there are no reasons to do that," he said.
The minister said that sunflower was sowed on an area of 4.2 million hectares.
As reported, Ukraine's agricultural enterprises had harvested sunflower from 109,000 hectares and milled almost 110,000 tonnes in seeds. The average crop yield in Ukraine comes to 10 centners per hectare. In 2008, Ukraine harvested 6.52 million tonnes of sunflower.
