Electricity consumption in Ukraine in January to July 2009, taking into account losses in electricity transmission, fell by 13.6% or 15.081 billion kilowatt-hours year-on-year, to 95.789 billion kilowatt-hours, the Fuel and Energy Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.
Electricity consumption, not including losses, over the period fell by 14.6% or 13.114 billion kilowatt-hours, to 76.503 billion kilowatt-hours.
Industry in Ukraine over the period under review decreased electricity consumption by 27% or 13.087 billion kilowatt-hours, to 35.306 billion kilowatt-hours, including a 31.8% fall in consumption by the metallurgical industry, to 18.111 billion kilowatt-hours, a 37% fall in consumption by the chemical and oil industry, to 2.532 billion kilowatt-hours, and a 34.2% fall in consumption by engineering companies, to 2.782 billion kilowatt-hours. There was an 11% rise in consumption by the population, to 20.162 billion kilowatt-hours.
The share of industry in total electricity consumption fell from 54% in January to July 2008 to 46.2% in January to July 2009, while the share of the population grew from 20.3% to 26.4%.
