The Ukrainian government approved on August 5 a draft protocol amending the Ukraine-Russia intergovernmental agreement, which was signed in 1993 to launch the Antonov An-70 military cargo aircraft program.
Ukrainian First Deputy Defense Minister Valeriy Ivaschenko will sign the protocol.
The document, which confirms the readiness of Russia and Ukraine to continue the An-70 project, was coordinated at the sixth meeting of the bilateral working group in Moscow in early July, a high-ranking source in the Ukrainian defense sector told Interfax. The group was formed in 2006 by the Ukraine-Russia Economic Cooperation Committee's Security Sub-Committee.
"The document acknowledges the basic agreement of the sides to continue joint work in the An-70 program, including funding of state tests of the aircraft and its serial production," the source said.
The parameters of the project funding and time will be updated in accordance with national laws and state armament programs and included in bilateral contracts.
